Students are the lifeblood of any educational institution. Historical Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) are the most under supported institutions of higher education in America because of the lack of support to students attending these colleges and universities. They are constantly underfunded and struggle year to year to fulfill their mission. The most recent victim, St. Paul College, closed it doors June 30, 2013. HBCUs were founded to provide education to freed slaves. Some believe that HBCUs are irrelevant and are relics of the past. However, HBCUs continue to provide opportunities through the power of education. If you support a student attending an HBCU, you are supporting the school and fulfilling a dream.
